1. Introduction

BrandNamer ("we," "us," or "our") operates the website at brandnamer.io. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices. We keep things simple because our product is simple — no accounts, no databases storing your data, no tracking beyond what's described below.

2. Information We Collect

Information you provide

• Product description — the text you type into the name generator form (e.g. "a project management tool for freelancers"). This is sent to our AI provider to generate names and is not stored after the response is returned.
• Style and length preferences — the options you select in the form. These are sent alongside your description and are not stored.

Information collected automatically

• IP address — used solely for server-side rate limiting (10 requests per hour). IP addresses are held in memory only and are not written to disk or any database.
• Usage data via Google Analytics — page views, referral source, browser type, device type, and approximate location. This data is aggregated and anonymized by Google. See Google's Privacy Policy.
• Saved names (local only) — when you click the bookmark icon to save a name, it is stored in your browser's localStorage. This data never leaves your device.

Information we do NOT collect

• We do not require or store email addresses, names, or any account information.
• We do not store your product descriptions or generated names on our servers.
• We do not use cookies set by BrandNamer itself (third-party services may set their own — see Section 5).

3. How We Use Your Information

• To generate brand names — your product description is sent to Anthropic's Claude API, which returns name suggestions. The description is not stored after the response.
• To check domain availability — generated names are queried against RDAP (public domain registry) servers to check .com, .io, and .co availability.
• To prevent abuse — your IP address is used for rate limiting only.
• To understand usage patterns — Google Analytics helps us see which pages are popular and how people find BrandNamer.
• To display ads — Google AdSense may show ads on BrandNamer to help keep the tool free.

4. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with these service providers, solely for the purposes described:

• Anthropic — receives your product description to generate name suggestions. See Anthropic's Privacy Policy.
• Google (Analytics & AdSense) — receives anonymized usage data and may set cookies for ad personalization. See Google's Privacy Policy.
• Namecheap — when you click a "Buy" domain button, you are redirected to Namecheap via an affiliate link. We do not send any personal data to Namecheap — only the domain name is included in the URL.
• Vercel — hosts BrandNamer and may process standard server logs. See Vercel's Privacy Policy.

5. Cookies and Tracking

BrandNamer itself does not set any cookies. However, third-party services embedded on the site may set cookies:

• Google Analytics — analytics cookies to measure site traffic (e.g. _ga, _gid).
• Google AdSense — advertising cookies for ad personalization and frequency capping.

You can control cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers allow you to block third-party cookies or clear cookies on exit. You may also opt out of personalized ads at Google Ads Settings.

6. Data Retention

• Product descriptions and generated names — not retained. Processed in real-time and discarded after the API response.
• IP addresses (rate limiting) — held in server memory only. Cleared when the server restarts or the 1-hour rate limit window expires.
• Google Analytics data — retained per Google's default retention settings (14 months).
• Saved names (localStorage) — stored on your device until you clear your browser data.

7. Your Rights

Because we don't collect personal data beyond anonymized analytics, most data subject rights (access, deletion, portability) are not applicable. However:

• GDPR (EU/EEA residents) — you have the right to access, rectify, or erase your personal data; restrict or object to processing; and data portability. Contact us at the address below to exercise these rights.
• CCPA (California residents) — you have the right to know what personal information is collected, request deletion, and opt out of the sale of personal information. We do not sell personal information.
• Google Analytics opt-out — install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

8. Data Security

All traffic to BrandNamer is encrypted via HTTPS. API keys are stored as server-side environment variables and are never exposed to the browser. Rate limiting is in place to prevent abuse. Since we do not store personal data in any database, the risk of a data breach exposing personal information is minimal.

9. International Transfers

BrandNamer is hosted on Vercel, which uses globally distributed edge servers. Your product descriptions are processed by Anthropic's API servers in the United States. Google Analytics and AdSense data may be processed in any country where Google operates.

10. Children's Privacy

BrandNamer is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to remove it.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Since we don't collect email addresses, we cannot notify you directly — we recommend checking this page periodically.
